Cryolipolysis uses low temperature to break down fat cells. Unlike other types of cells, fat cells are particularly vulnerable to cold. When fat cells freeze, skin and other structures are not harmed.
This is one of the most popular non-surgical fat loss treatments with over 450,000 procedures performed worldwide.
Who is not suitable for Freeze Fat?
Cryolipolysis should not be performed in patients with cold-related conditions such as cryoglobulinemia, cold urticaria, and paroxysmal cold hemoglobulinuria.
What does cryolipolysis do?
The purpose of cryolipolysis is to reduce the amount of fat in the fat bumps. Some patients may choose to treat more than one area or treat one area more than once.
Does cryolipolysis require anesthesia?
This procedure is done without anesthesia.
Cryolipolysis treatment process
After measuring the size and shape of the fat bump to be treated, select the appropriate size and curvature of the treatment handle. Mark the treated area to identify where to place the handle. A freezing film is placed to prevent the skin from frostbite. After starting work, the handle vacuums the targeted fat to the inside of the treatment handle. The temperature inside the treatment handle drops, and as it does, the area numbs. Patients sometimes experience discomfort as the vacuum pulls on their tissues, but this goes away within minutes once the area is numb.
Patients typically watch TV, use smartphones, or read during surgery. After about 45 minutes of treatment, remove the treatment handle and massage the area, which may improve the final result.
What are the risks of cryolipolysis?
The complication rate is low and the satisfaction rate is high. There is a risk of surface irregularities and asymmetries.
Recovery from cryolipolysis
There are no activity restrictions. Patients sometimes experience soreness as if they had exercised. Patients rarely feel pain. If this happens, the patient should contact a plastic surgeon, who may prescribe medication for a few days.
What are the results of cryolipolysis?
Injured fat cells are gradually eliminated by the body over 4 to 6 months. During this period, the size of the fat bumps decreased, with an average fat loss of about 26%.
